Digital Video Disaster

No. No. NO. I can’t do it. I’m sorry, I love you and all that, but I can’t sit through Beaches again.

The only beaches I want to see are being stormed by Allied troops, or pounded by raging hurricanes, or strafed by fighter planes. Despite everything our relationship has done to me, I’m still a man. I have needs. And those needs are just sitting there in DVD form, taunting me while Bette Midler weeps her way through another poignant goodbye.

But hey, I’m liberated and all that. I’ll let you choose which one we watch, OK? Will it be the six discs of Natural Disasters, with enough earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricans, forest fires, and other calamities to keep us slack-jawed until doomsday? Maybe the roaring power and powerful roars of America’s flying fighting machines on the four discs of the Top Gun Air Power collection? Or what about the four discs’ worth of grainy but fascinating footage from the big dubya-dubya-eye-eye, as seen on the WWII: Theaters of War set? How about it?

Oh, no, not the Over California set. Yes, the four discs’ worth of scenery is beautiful and awe-inspiring. But it’s just too scary. With everything going on in that state right now, I’ll stick with tornadoes and combat.
