Music Monday: Brand New Lovers

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! There have been so many deaths this year that Scott has just given up doing RIP posts, but you may notice that today's Music Monday was inspired by the late Pete Burns, lead singer of Dead Or Alive. Today is a collection of songs all about that nagging human need to find something better, even when you've got it good.

Dead Or Alive - Brand New Lover

Pete Burns had a hard life, then a good life, then a hard life. But he channeled some of that pain and anguish into making some great pop songs, as you can hear above. RIP Pete. Thanks for the fun.

Four more and then it will be YOUR turn!

The Gap Band - Early In The Morning

This funky funky song is all about waking up and getting back to work after you've been dumped. It's sad, but it's also honest. You can't just wallow! You can't! If that person left you first, hey, so what? There's other fish in the sea! And as we all know, to catch a fish, you gotta get up early.

Jody Watley - I'm Looking For A New Love

This could actually be the same song from a different perspective! Jody's "hasta la vista, baby" instantly made the song memorable, and actually inspired Arnold's famous line in Terminator 2 and possibly got him elected governor. Not bad for a pop song.

Marina And The Diamonds - Shampain

It takes a few passes before it hits you what this "happy" song is actually about. It's well-crafted and doesn't hit you in the face with it right out of the gate.

Greg Kihn Band - The Breakup Song

Greg Kihn captures the feeling of a song reminding you of your past in a bittersweet way, when you're all alone right now and you wish you were back in the place of your nostalgia.
