Music Monday: Herbs

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday!Today Scott is considering the herb and it's role in music. It's not just Simon and Garfunkel, you know.

Edison Lighthouse - Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)

Rosemary is a very popular herb! According to legend, it was draped around the Greek goddess Aphrodite when she rose from the sea. It also goes well with pork.

More herbs yet to come!

Mark Knopfler - Basil

Basil is related to peppermint! It also grows well alongside tomato plants, like a vegetative buddy. It goes in damn near everything a human can eat.

Donovan - Jennifer Juniper

Junipers are known to grow in a lot of weird places (like the deserts of Nevada and the mountains of Tibet) but they also grow in normal places too. Juniper is involved in the making of gin! Sadly, you can't water them with tonic to skip a step.

Los Lobos - Kiko and the Lavender Moon

You actually can eat lavender. I've had it on eggs! It's also a very pretty wildflower you sometimes see near interstates to pretty up the scenery.

Herb Alpert - Rise

This Herb is the "A" in A&M Records and was later sampled by Dr. Dre! Yes, THAT Dr. Dre. You don't run a music label without being a gangster, after all.
