Take a picture, why dontcha?
Buy a fancy camera, become a fancy photographer.
With the photo capabilities on smartphones these days, most people don't even consider buying a stand-alone camera. And when they do, compact point-and-shoots have gotten so advanced that it may seem that there's little reason to lug around a big DSLR. But there are still plenty situations where even amateurs are better off with one of these bad boys:
Parties: You could snap pictures with your iPhone like everyone else, but by having a DSLR you'll really look like you know what you're doing. And isn't that what photography is all about? Your friends will ooh and ahh When you detach the included AF-S 18-55mm zoom lens. "Wow, that's like, a real camera!" they'll exclaim. Yes, yes it is.
Vacations: Just because you're away from home doesn't mean you can't still impress strangers with your fancy camera. And once you get home, you can show all your friends the videos you took, mentioning that they're recorded in full 1080p (don't worry, they won't know what that means).
Nature: Sure, you won't have other people to impress in the wilderness, but you'll know whether or not you're using Nikon's 11-point autofocus system with 3D-tracking. You'll know.
