daveinwarshington wrote:MAYBE SOMEONE IS USING IT AS A BOAT ANCHOR....

One of my favorite proofreading stories. Not a great reporter and didn't mark it as questionable, she had down that a guy was talking about an old computer, a bodangle. I hunted and hunted and hunted for that brand of computer before I finally realized the guy had said "boat anchor" and she didn't know what he was talking about.

Jacksonville weather: Shit.

82-86 day, 70+ night, rain all week. Storms. 300+% humidity. Never cools down.

sigh....................................................

Just found this: TROPICS: Area of low pressure to bring heavy rain to Jacksonville area. Wear a rain coat at 82 degrees & 300% humidity? shit.

Yep, I just heard about the "sub-tropical wave"...I don't think you'll have to worry. Hurricanes always wait for MY vacation.

Might want to bring your rain boots....you have those, don't you? Does anyone remember 4-Buckle Arctics?

Hmmm... I'm trying to fit everything in one carry-on bag. If it's raining, I'll stay inside somewhere. Maybe a second pair of sneakers for if one gets wet...

Why the heck would someone steal a dog?
Are they worth a lot of money?
Hold them for ransom?

I'm thinking Chevy & Jetta are worth maybe $1.75 on the dog market.

WHO STEALS DOGS? WHY WHY WHY? WHY CAN'T PEOPLE BE NORMAL AND HAVE BORING HOBBIES LIKE STAMP COLLECTING AND NOT STEALING DOGS?

Dave, my cracker barrel go to is the steak. Also the lemonade is real. Last time I was there I heard a girl order dumplings with a side of dumplings so there's that too.

summer season in FL is rainy season. rains almost every afternoon.

unlike northern rains, which can break the humidity, southern rains simply add to the humidity.

most everyplace there has a/c, so plan on being indoors for the bulk of the day.

we DID get some good thunderstorms!

came out of work at a bit before 8 (the store is starting to mark stuff down 50% so I did some shopping) and the sky was a very strange bright gray-orange-pink combo. really ominous!

there was a boom and power flickered. pharmacy computers went on and off but store kept power. my pharmacist was worried because her house lost power (husband texted her) and she really wanted to watch the Celtics game.

I don't usually have Mon off, or work Tues evenings. I had no idea what day or time it was all day. and we had more higher ups visit. so it was another blargh day.

debating taking a shower, having a blue drink, or collapsing on couch.

WE ALL HAD ELECTRIC TYPEWRITERS, BUT EVERYONE HAD TO ALSO TAKE A TURN ON THE MANUAL ONES. I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY DID THAT...

I THINK WOOT CUTS OFF A SPACE AFTER A PERIOD.

1 SPACE. 2 SPACES. 3 SPACES. 4 SPACES. 5 SPACES. END OF TEST.

DAMN YOU WOOT! GIVE ME BACK MY DOUBLE-SPACES!!

I LEARNED ON A MANUAL OLIVETTI. I USE ONE SPACE BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT I WAS TAUGHT IN BUSINESS SCHOOL. THE FUNNY THING IS ONE YEAR WE WOULD DO 2 SPACES, THE NEXT IT WOULD BE ONE. ALSO, DEPENDING ON THE STYLE OF PAPER YOU WERE WRITING MADE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 1 OR 2. THEN FACTOR IN WHAT PROCESSING PROGRAM YOU USED OR WHO YOU WERE TRYING TO PLEASE....OH FUGETABOUTIT!!

My college graduation was outside - it was a beautiful morning, day before Mother's Day, I think.

YAY for the double spaces! We had half the class on manuals, half on electric - switched half way through the year. I believe we still have one old typewriter at my office, shoved in a corner somewhere.

90 degrees, storms again, summer is here.

My left eye is healing, but my distance vision is not doing so well. In fact, it pretty well sucks, and I bet I am going to end up wearing glasses for distance. Shit. I see the doc on Friday.

I FORGOT TO YELL! SHIT!

Good fried okra is never slimy, just crunchy goodness!
Get them to add some cheese to that “grit,” only way to go.
My tea is as dark as a cola, needs to be strong to be good.
Okra and a fresh tomato is so good.

It's usually the first thing I eat. Not as good cold.

I like the country fried steak with mashed potatoes, sawmill gravy, and corn. But that's heart attack on a plate.
Sometimes I'll get a bowl of pinto beans.
I keep getting the cornbread instead of the biscuits...I don't know why...they are so dry that I inevitably choke. Every. Damn. Time.
I like sweet tea, but usually get the orange cream soda.

Yes. Happy Wooster/Mr. Whiskers Wednesday.
Switching to a tablet tomorrow, so there will be much less woot-action from me for a while.
Still haven't figured how to get into the forums while using the woot android app.

Have a great day! I'm feeling better, the pollen had my head filled & nearly popping. I'm clearing out now... whew!

Decided to just check bags in, so we have room for extra changes of clothes & crap.
Also, our house will have someone here at least a couple times a day. Chevy & Jetta need occasional petting (& food)...

Fry 'em up & they are better? Cool!

I thought the grits (and the gator) we had last time were actually pretty good.
