Music Monday: 3-2-1 Count

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! 3. 2. 1. 5. Well, it's not perfect, but it's as close to a countdown and we're gonna get for a while. So today, Scott's choosing 5 songs that count. Three, two one... GO!

Peter Schilling - Major Tom

Four, three, two, one! Of course, this song is also a sorta-cover of Space Oddity, just in case there's anyone left who didn't know that.

More to come after the jump. Count on it.

The Mountain Goats - Have To Explode

Five, four, three, two, one. There's possibly no band less fancy than The Mountain Goats, but they still manage to keep a very specific and distinctive sound, even when John Darnielle actually hires musicians. This bleak, hot night could find two people falling in love, or find two people saying goodbye for the last time. Which do you hear?

Beautiful Small Machines - Counting Back To 1

Five, four, three, two, one. But this time, it's not so soft and mysterious. This countdown is a dance-friendly introspective look at someone's hard night out. Maybe it's a count to a new future, or maybe it's the end of an old past. Who can say?

The The - I've Been Waiting For Tomorrow (All My Life)

Is it cheating to include a musical countdown? I don't think so. This countdown was repurposed from a rocket launch, perhaps, but it works just fine as an introduction. And really... what else is a countdown for?

The KLF - What Time Is Love?

Ahhhh, my beloved KLF. They were the Illuminati before anyone knew what that word meant. And, of course, they've got a countdown right in the middle of their song. Five, four, three, two, one. Could there be a better closer?

Post your countdown songs in the forums! And don't worry. As always, we're grading your countdowns on a curve. Oh, hey, let us just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia page and are here under fair use. See you next week.
