Music Monday: Rock Flute

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! It’s Music Monday! Today's the birthday of Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson! He's well known for being one of the few rock flautists. But guess what? There are at least five! And Scott's celebrating the flaut with this list of flute hits.

Jethro Tull - Living In The Past

When you think flute rock, you think Tull, one of the few bands to out-metal Metallica. Seriously. They got an award and everything. FLUTE OF THUNDERRRRRR

More flute to come after the jump. Tune it up! Bring the noise!

The Beatles - Fool On The Hill

Did you forget about the flute in this Beatles song? It's not as famous as Ian Anderson's tinny tunes, but it's still there for all to hear. How many easy listening songs started here, eh? EH?

War - Spill The Wine

War is remembered as being a very multi-cultural, fusion-rock sort of band. So no one should be surprised to learn there's a flute player front and center. Also he gets a video credit too! Isn't that nice/

Beastie Boys - Sure Shot

Not only is this a wonderful hip hop song, it samples the flute loop from Jeremy Steig so we're gonna count this one TWICE! Well, in our hearts at least. In our hearts.

Style Council - How She Threw It All Away

I'm a sucker for The Style Council's brand of summery pop, so I knew right away I'd have to include one of their songs. This is the one you get to enjoy AREN'T YOU THE LUCKY ONES, READERS????

Let us just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia page and are here under fair use. Now it's up to you to find the flute songs and post them. Get busy! And we'll see you next week.
