Music Monday: The Final Beach Songs

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! We’re sad to say that summer’s pretty much come to a close. It was grand, wasn’t it? We’ll always remember those special times. However, there’s still a BIT more time for one last beach run. So hurry up! Make the most of it! And maybe use some of these songs as inspiration.

Martha & The Muffins - Echo Beach

The beach is somewhere nobody forces you to visit (usually) so it’s got those special childhood memories attached to it. Unlike, say, your desk at the office. Sigh.

See you after the jump!

The Stranglers - Peaches

Beach romances aren’t always the deepest of connections. Small wonder. It’s one of the few places in our society where it’s socially acceptable to wear as little as possible, while sitting around all day doing nothing.

XTC - Seagulls Screaming Kiss Her, Kiss Her

That’s not to say it’s all just superficial! The beach is a nice place to fall in love, but be careful. What you think is true love might just turn out to be the rush of being on vacation. Plenty of heartfelt moments dissolve into heartbreak two days into September.

Jay-Z - Beach Is Better (NSFW due to language)

Of course, family vacations can be expensive as well. The beach itself might be free, but the parking, time, food, gas, and whatnot sure aren’t. Also worth noting here is how Jay-Z finds a way to make it clear his character is not the man himself while complimenting his wife’s beauty. Quite the clever fella, that Jay-Z.

Brian Eno - On Some Faraway Beach

And keep in mind, it might not be beach weather, but the beach doesn’t just vanish. If you’re looking for a quiet place to sit alone? Check out a winter beach! The only people there will be yourself and maybe a couple of college film students making an art flick.

Let us also just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia page and are here under fair use. So long, summer. See you next week, everyone else.
