Carol Chen Poun Joe was born 11 march 1989 in Paramaribo, Suriname.
At the age of 3 she started to draw and was discovered as a burgeoning talent when she was 16 years old. Consequently she started private lessons in drawing and painting with the Surinamese artist Cliff San a Jong.

Through these intense lessons and studies of the classical masters, she managed to develop her skills and graduate as full-fledged artist at the age of 19.

A year later, from 31 July to 7 August 2009,she realized her first exhibition together with her fellow students under San a Jong, where the general public could familiarize themselves with her work and the artist in person.
Carol’s technique and style can be described as Realism and portraits with a classical touch are her favorite subject .she draws her inspiration from her inner feelings, nature and life experiences.
