For $4 a test, I expect high, consistent quality. I’ve used more of these tests over the past couple of decades than I’d care to admit, and the quality has gone up and down. There was a time when these were more sensitive, where I’ve gotten positives as early as the evening of 7 dpo, or the morning of 8 dpo (which is ridiculously early,) but this time I got a positive by the afternoon of 9 dpo. And I’m fine with that. I didn’t even take off stars in my rating for that fact alone. I’ll explain why in just a moment. I also use different brands of the cheap dip-strip tests, and they’re normally more open about their sensitivity. The First Response tests are just to confirm everything after I get light lines on the cheap tests. The Wondfo 10 miu was first to turn positive on 8 dpo, followed the next morning by Pregmate and Easy@Home. I took a FRER the afternoon of 9 dpo and got my first positive on that one. If you’ll notice (and this is important because of the photo,) that the current FRER tests have dark pink caps. The last time I used them 2-3 years ago, they had a clear pink cap. The ones with the clear pink caps were good! They were sensitive and turned dark quickly, showing HCG progression for anyone who wanted to see that. Well, I had one left and used it on 11 dpo. Even though it expired a while ago, I got a nice dark line! So I had one of the new ones left and saved it for 48 hours later. By 13 dpo, the test line is normally about the same darkness as the control on a FRER. The only time it hasn’t been, is when there was an issue and I ended up losing the pregnancy. So, imagine my horror when I took this and there was no test line for almost 3 minutes!!! I immediately took one of each of my cheap tests, and the funny thing is that they had the strongest lines that they’d produced up to this point. After 10 minutes, I could finally see a light line on the FRER. The photo was taken at 15 minutes. If I hadn’t been through this before, I would think that I was having a chemical and been really upset. But, I know better this time. I just read another review talking about how there was a group of these doing the same thing (producing non-existent or really light lines,) but my expiration date doesn’t match up with those. Mine expires 01-07-2027. It’s almost like this was a thriving company, and someone decided to cut costs somewhere because the quality is just not there anymore. I will never buy these again! There are too many competitors without the same issues. In fact, I think I’ll just stick to the cheap internet dip-sticks. They were by far the most reliable and actually showed progression!
