Not What It Once Was :(
By WUSTYBOY on Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2019
I had always been a big fan of especially this Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion. I'd always bought a few bottles and had them throughout my house and had used all but one of the bottles up (the one shown here) before leaving on a three year adventure. When I returned, I began to use what was left, then remembering how much I had loved it. As I began to deplete this bottle, I ordered this duo pack noticing that the bottle's appearance itself had been upgraded. When it arrived and I tried it out, I immediately noticed it was no longer anywhere nearly as awesome as it once was. It now has a greasy, waxy paraffin feel to it. It leaves my skin feeling this exact same way and, worse, doesn't absorb into the skin at all no matter how long I wait, thus everything sticks to my skin and feels gritty... absolutely horrible. Simply put, my skin cannot breathe, that is until I shower and/or wash it off. And if I don't do that right away, my skin turns red. I stopped using the new bottle, then waited a few days and used the very last of the original older bottle, only to confirm what sadly now seemed to have become the case. I was so very disappointed, so I Googled Cetaphil and called the # that provided. After discussing my findings, and after both they and I compared the UPC codes on both bottles and discovering that they were still exactly the same, thus making that the only thing the two bottles still had in common. Upon looking at the ingredients of both bottles, the Cetaphil people and I concluded that some of the ingredients were still the same, however some were now anything but... the older bottle contained macadamia nut oil totally unlike the new bottle that contains heavier ingredients... persea gratissima oil, i.e. avocado oil, etc. After I provided the batch #'s of both bottles to the Cetaphil company, they told me the the awesome older, lighter weight lotion has been discontinued. This really saddens me as before I had never been so very pleased with any lotions at all as I had been with Cetaphil. Regardless, I will now have to search all over again for a different lotion because their new formula is never going to work in any aspect for me. The Cetaphil company did bring to my attention that their Cetaphil creme (the jar) has yet a different type of oil in it... one different from either the old or new formula of the lotion, so I may try it although I tend to believe that a creme will always be heavier than a lotion. Sadly, if the creme is heavy, greasy, waxy paraffin-like also, I will then have to give up on Cetaphil altogether... again, a product that I had used for many years. I guess the old saying is true. "One doesn't miss what they've never had."... Since I'd enjoyed their much better original version so very much, I most definitely miss it now :(
