Mediabridge wins me over yet again~
By sndb on Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2013
To preface this review, I'd like to mention that I rarely--if ever--can be bothered to take the time or effort to rate and write product reviews for any of the stuff I acquire through Amazon. The fact that I've actually gone and written a review here is an indicator of how highly I think of Mediabridge cables. Since I discovered them about four years ago--while searching online for HDMI cables (just got first HDTV at the time)--Mediabridge has always my first choice for cables. Since then, I've purchased quite a few Mediabridge HDMI, TOSlink/optical, USB, and ethernet cables of varying lengths. Their cables are definitely top tier in terms of build/construction quality, and then when you start comparing competitor prices, finding that Mediabridge cables are priced only slightly higher (10%-40%) than bottom-rung generic cables, it becomes a total no-brainer to buy Mediabridge whenever possible. Just like every other Mediabridge cable I've purchased, this USB extension cable is excellent. Firm but supple cable plastic/rubber, high-quality, solid feeling, well built plugs, and an overall fit and finish that measures up to the rest of their outstanding cables. The only thing I could criticise out of my years of Mediabridge cables, is that the translucent plastic logo/badge glued to the plug came off the first time I gripped the plug hard and pulled to disconn-- Nevermind, I just went looking for the plug that's stick with leftover adhesive and remembered that it was an Amazon Basics cable that had the poorly glued badge on it. So I guess that means I can't think of a single negative thing to say about Mediabridge cables. Well, except that they don't make cables for /everything/ yet, so I can complain about the times I have to wade through the countless amazon/newegg pages of cheap generic/no-name/off-brand cables to determine the least terribad option out of the usual array of dirt-cheap sketchy cables sporting stiff plastic cable sheathing and sub-par terminal/plug quality... Mediabridge cables have all the functional/practical perks and advantages of "premium" cables like Monster, but instead of paying absurd $$$ for a pretty, multi-color, patterned, woven nylon sleeved Monster cable, Mediabridge gives you the performance and longevity of the high-buck "premium" cable brands, while being priced amazingly close to the off-brand, dirt-cheap cables.

USB Seems to be More Complex Than We Thought
By Bali Hai Batman on Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2012
How complex can USB be? This extension will not power on *anything* except on only two connections on all our systems. We expect that HDMI [cables] are complex and can give you some grief on various displays etc. But USB? How can this be? Every other product we've ordered from Mediabridge (including HDMI cables) has been superb. I believe this to be defective but there seems to be more here than meets the eye. It now has me researching why the disparity between usb cables. This extension had me test *all* our USB extensions and cables to see just which and how many of them will power on and work with what devices. What I discovered was unsettling. I came across only a few extensions that actually powered on one of my main 2.5" external usb enclosures\drives via this non-powered hub. It surprised me that this extension wouldn't power on that drive like two other generic 5.5" extensions did through this hub, but also didn't power on the drive when directly connected to the laptop. In fact, it didn't even power on that drive using a powered hub with which just about every other extension would work correctly (powered on every device). Worse, it wouldn't even recognize flash drives through the hub and on most of our systems when directly connected without any hub. Only with two connections on two systems did it recognize & power on flash drives but only when directly connected. For instance, when directly connected to the laptop, it would recognize flash drive, but will not power on that external hdd. On only one other system it would recognize flash drive but not the external hdd. On most of our systems it wouldn't recognize any devices. This makes me believe it is a rare defective extension. Nevertheless, it has us wondering why this is. Why are some extensions able to power certain devices and others will just not work. I'm looking for an extension that is longer than the two generics which top out at only 5.5". I'm trying to get a longer one but now am very hesitant because of the inconsistencies of these cables. Because these two short extensions WILL power on this external drive through an non-powered hub proves that there are cables that can work this way. Now i just need a longer one (1 to 3 feet) that will do that. If anyone knows about an extension meeting these needs, please let me know. In the meantime, I'm off to research this further.
