A fine driveway alert system
By Brian Mathie on Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2014
A very dependable driveway alert for me, that uses AA batteries (I only use AA/AAA rechargeable batteries these days, so this was very important to me). I bought this, as when I'm working in the back office of my house, I sometimes do not hear people arrive, even at the front door. It was very easy to set up, and I mounted the sensor to a tree, alongside my driveway (I did add a small awning over it, to protect it from direct sunlight, and rain). I followed the directions, mounting it at an angle to my driveway, and it picks up anyone (in car, or on foot) that enters the front yard, or driveway. I'm very happy with it. I have it on the most sensitive setting, and it has picked up a small dog, that wandered over. Also, if a bird lands near it, it will go off. The best feature for me, is the fact that you can unplug the inside receiver from the AC power cord, and it then becomes a mobile receiver, using 4 AA batteries, which I can carry into the back yard (about 80 feet away from the sensor), and alert me of visitors, if I'm out in the garden. Another good feature is the volume control on the alert beep, so the sound is not so jarring, when it goes off. The video review at the beginning of the reviews, of this device, is what convinced me to purchase it. I had researched driveway alerts for 3 weeks, before deciding on this one, and it works for my purposes.

really disappointing
By taxt on Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2013
Bought two, one worked right off but the other needed a day or so before it kicked in. A real mystery, but it's working fine now. A little pricey for a sensor that isn't weatherproof and don't know how long it'll last, but I use the Defender security cameras and have high expectations. I'll edit my review if they disappoint on down the line. UPDATE July 20, 2013 -- Okay, one stopped working all together the first week and the others work sometimes and don't work at all at other times after multiple re-installations looking for a better positioning and changing out the batteries multiple times, etc. I thought at first it might be the time of day affecting their trigger (lighting), but there's no consistency and I am giving up on them all together and looking for something better. They never did have anything like the range that was claimed for them, either, was lucky to get a 10-foot range. Pitiful. I'm marking 2 stars instead of 1 just because they're so pitiful I feel sorry for them. I've used the Defender security camera systems several years and was satisfied with what they offered for the money until the last two I bought and they lack signal/reception strength in a drastic way. I like sticking with a brand that works, but that no longer includes Defender.
