A day in the life of my dogs!
By A. Customer on Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2013
I have two little dogs at home and I like to be able to watch them when I'm away, I just want to make sure they are okay. (Yes I am one of those over-protective pet-mommies!) I originally bought the Cisco WVC80N but since it didn't pan or tilt I had to buy 4 just to cover half of the blind spots in the room and my dogs like to wander, so at $100 each that was getting too expensive, plus they didn't have 2 way audio, just one way and no night vision. Then I saw this Foscam and since it had good reviews I decided to give it a try. I absolutely love it! Setup was a breeze and I had it working in under a minute (i'm a bit of an electronics geeks so this may not be an average time estimate). The interface is easy to use and gives you multiple options to access the camera feed based on the browser you are using. I've tried it with IE, Firefox, and Chrome and IE gives you the most features (due to ActiveX) but I swear the resolution is better with Firefox (this could be because the image is slightly smaller and so it just appears better quality). I'm not overly thrilled with the Foscam Android app, as it didn't have controls to move the camera but it does have the 2 way audio. However there are plenty of other IP cam apps out there that you can use to control it, I use IPCamViewer Basic. The audio isn't the best, there tends to be feedback when you try to use the microphone while listening to the audio through speakers but its clear enough that my dogs seem to recognize my voice. I used it during a recent thunderstorm to calm my dogs while I was at work. The highest resolution the camera has is 640x480 which isn't the best but its good enough. There is a higher resolution camera from Foscam (I think its the 9810?) that looks like this one for $100 more but for my purposes, and probably most peoples purposes, this resolution is fine. Even in night vision mode the resolution is still pretty decent (at least for a network camera). And by the way night vision mode is awesome! I can easily make out my little pups when they are hiding in the dark corner when the world outside gets too scary. Overall I can't say enough good things about this camera. I highly recommend it, for its price point I think its one of the best on the market. Though a warning to all pet parents who have nosy animals, make sure you put it up high. When I first got the camera (before I mounted it) I set it on a high table and one of my dogs found it and started sticking his face into the camera and even now that i've mounted it I find him frequently staring directly into the camera. :-)

Foscam support sucks
By Steve on Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2015
purchased 4 Foscam cameras including an outdoor camera. They all worked BUT inconsistently. What good is having security camera's if you have to reboot them by unplugging them or using the reboot button? Try to do this while your away from home or on vacation.... so in my opinion (we are an apple family) these are NOT easy to work with. On top of that- Foscam Customer service is piss poor. You will NOT get any support from Foscam if you purchase through amazon. They only support camera's purchased from their site. I was told by a Foscam Representative that Amazon is an unauthorized seller of Foscam products. (Go figure that one out) I repeated this several times to the rep and he repeated it back to me - I even told him that I was going to hang up and call Amazon and basically that was the end of the conversation with Foscam. Needless to say, I returned all the camera's based on Foscam support PLUS the inconsistency in the camera's reliability staying connected. There has to be a newer upcoming company that can produce a better camera at a decent price point without comparing themselves to Foscam. ---- UPDATE; I discovered on the apple site that they offer a camera called "Canary"- so I purchased one to try out....wow! what a difference. has everything build right in including a siren that you can activate remotely if necessary. I purchased a 2nd one on Amazon (do like Amazon!) Needless to say, so far so great. Now I'm continuing my search for a decently priced outdoor camera that maybe can pan, tilt, zoom, motion, send alerts... ummm- is this possible? anyway, when I find it I will review and let you know. For now, good luck to us all and goodbye
