First 5 rating for this TV

I really love this TV. This is my first flat screen TV. I did a lot of homework before zeroing on this TV. I purchased it based on the following features: - It is a smart HDTV, LED - 60Hz and this year's model available at considerably better price as compared to even last year models with similar features. Though, I would have been very happy if I could have closed the deal at $ 650 :-p I did see the earlier reviews for this TV but most seemed like user training issues. The sound/picture quality is excellent. Picture quality will seem dull with the eco friendly setting of Standard. However, it is configurable per your liking and the user manual is very effective in identifying and setting up your needs. 3 HDMI + 2 USB available Setting up Network/WI FI is also very easy. Depending on Internet speed, the smart TV works good. Youtube videos does not stream so fast for me directly through the TV but when I connect to my laptop through HDMI, it just works fine. Movies through Netflix are great. No 3D but I did not want it. The LED TV comparison chart that Amazon provides is very helpful in determining what features you need and what you do not need. The Kids stories is very useful for my 3 yr old son. Recently saw our first 1080p HD movie "Journey to the center of the earth" and it was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Movie files with .vob,.avi and .wmv works perfect. I have not tried others yet. Even, if some do not work, there are many sites where we have converters available. So this is not a big deal too. On the whole, it is a great TV with very good features. Its a good tradeoff between the basic models this year and the higher end versions which made it attractive for me. I did not have to settle for a lower less feature version nor wanted to go for umpteen number of features with a higher version costing above 1000 bucks.

Random shut down and no flash support, bad Samsung customer service
By GI on Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2012
Update 4/9/12: Samsung service offered to service the TV finally; however, due to the size their is no on site service. I would have had to take it to a place about 20 miles away from my house. I finally have had enough of trying to debug Samsung TV issues. I returned both of the 5300's that exhibited the exact same issues. Hooray for Amazon return policies and ease of sending back defect products. SHAME ON SAMSUNG! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update 4/8/12: Samsung service blamed my electrical in my house for ALL my issues (although they have never been here.) House is less than two years old, All other Samsung TVs that I have plugged in have NO issues (three other total). I took the TV to another person's house and sure enough the same issues occurred. So I guess If I call Samsung back the issue will be with the power delivery in a large metro area (I am sure customer service will continue to say there is no way this could be a Samsung issue.) Terrible TV and bad customer service for this issue!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update 4/6/12: New issue seen, after the TV had been on for awhile maybe an hour, not sure if it had turned off/on or not as I had walked in and out of the room a few times; however, I couldn't do anything with the TV it was frozen and I couldn't even turn it off. Had to unplug the unit to get it to reset and allow it to be turned off. It appears to me as if these TV have huge issues that need resolved before they will be ready to be used (i.e. I am seeing that others are having mutliple issues with different versions of the EH/ES TVs.) I saw a similar shut off issue being stated on an ES6500. I hope that a software update will fix these issues; however, I might have re-turned this Second TV with all the same issues by then. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- update: Others have seen the shutoff issue as well. there is a theory that it is related to ECO settings; however, the shut off should then only occur every 4 hours... But I turned off all eco friendly features and will see if the shutoff issue continues. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The TV is in HOME mode, in reference to the "user" error comment (this is not) as well that Samsung support can't determine the cause either... The TV picture is very nice and what you would expect for a lower priced LED TV. Not the picture quality of the 8000 but a nice picture for the size and price. Pros: 1. All the bells and whistles of internet connections, netflix, apps, DLNA, etc... that I was wanting 2. Wireless capabiltiy INCLUDED with the TV :), haven't checked any ranges; however, I get a strong connection. 3. Pciture is nice 4. Easier setup to wireless 5. When surfing on the web page PIP comes up with the TV signal in the PIP (not sure if that was done for earlier revisions of the TVs) Meh: 1. Web pages have slightly better usability than the D series with a standard remote, not good, but qwerty keyboard comes up vs. using a phone style text entering. This makes the process faster but still brutal. Cons: 1. The Web brower doesn't support Flash; however, I thought Samsung was supporting flash on these TVs. (bummer) 2. My TV, maybe not other 5300s, "randomly" turns off and on roughly every 30 - 45 minutes of use (still tracking and trying to determine potential causes), time other... A little debug on the shut off and other features 1. Further study suggests that with time on that the TVs smart features slow down and freeze (netflix) and when this occurs TV automatically shut off (so direct shut off with Netflix stutter and freeze) 2. Right after power cycled then netflix worked fine so it does point to the TV being the issue here and not netflix Software issue or hardware issue it is hard to say. Called Samsung support and they are wanting to service the TV, looks like it is time to return. With a swith out it will be interesting if this was a ONE off issue or a hardware/software/OS issue.
