Clever, convenient, and cafe-worthy
By Melody A. Roberts on Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2013
My husband and I just replaced the Saeco espresso maker we purchased 7 years ago and used all-day, every day. We estimate that our total per-cup cost-to-own was down at $0.03 per cup of coffee at the end. The machine was utterly reliable and the coffee great -- until it just stopped one day. So naturally we turned again to Saeco for a new machine. And the fact is, the new machine is far better even! We can tuck it under a cabinet and never take it out because the water, tray, and coffee grinds trays are all front-loading. We can finally make decaf for guests using the ground-coffee feature. It's petite and pretty. Oh! And the coffee -- using the same beans we had purchased -- tastes Italian cafe worthy. Strongly recommend.

Phillips/Saeco should be ashamed of this product.
By Squatch on Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2015
I've owned this machine for about 18 months and am really, really sorry I bought this machine. It has had to be repaired twice, once under warranty and of course the second time at 13 months after the warranty expired both were electronic failures of the computer's main motherboard. The second repair was at my cost and was more than half the original purchase price of the unit. So let's say that my machine has not had two malfunctions in the first 18 months of use? Add in the fact that this machine will often will give a descaling alarm and will block making espresso until you run through the 22 step process to descale the machine with of course, their custom descaling solution. To do this, it usually takes me about an hour and several times after I follow 3 pages of instructions in the manual to run solution through several maddening iterations of brewing cycles to descale the machine (at least 22 steps listed in the manual) the alarm will not clear. I also am concerned about whether this solution is actually safe and getting fully rinsed from the system as I don't like the idea of running chemicals though the machine that makes my everyday latte. Don't believe me? I attached photos of the manual to who you what you can expect about every 60 days This Saeco machine does make a great cup of coffee when it is working but it is completely over-complicated, unreliable and expensive to own. If you get one thing from this review, THIS MACHINE WILL GIVE YOU PROBLEMS and even if it does not, the need and cumbersome descaling make it not worth the trouble of having a fully automated machine like this. I've had to hold my wife back from a recreation of the printer scene from the movie "Office Space" she's so pissed at it. Phillips/Saeco should be ashamed of this product.
