High Quality EPA + DHA Omega-3 Supplement
By Phil in Magnolia on Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2013
I've recently started taking various supplements, including two Omega-3 Fish Oil products - this OmegaVia fish oil supplement, and another product from OmegaVia - their EPA 500 Pharmaceutical Grade EPA Omega-3 supplement. I take one gel of each daily to provide a suitable supplement of all forms of Omega-3. These 'softgel' capsules are relatively large and contain a healthy dosage of Omega-3 -- 1105 mg total Omega-3, with 780 mg EPA Omega-3, 260 mg DHA Omega-3, and 65 mg 'other' Omega-3. The large quantity of Omega-3 avoids the need to take multiple capsules in order to get the same total dosage. There are a wide variety of Omega-3 supplement products available on Amazon and elsewhere. I selected this product for the following reasons: - this OmegaVia Omega-3 supplement is independently tested for purity and potency by IFOS - the "International Fish Oil Standards Program" - to provide assurance that it contains what is claimed. I feel that this is very important. - this is a US-made product - percentage of EPA Omega-3 per capsule is very high (85%) so that the capsule size is not unnecessarily large in order to contain the amount of fish oil and Omega-3 to be delivered - capsules are enteric coated - cost per capsule is reasonable and competitive For a very comprehensive technical comparison of this product to other Omega-3 supplements available on Amazon, I recommend reading RWM's review. He has provided a very extensive analysis. I'm also impressed that OmegaVia has a very informative website with considerable information on the company and its products. The company executives are all identified, the company address is given, and contact information is provided. This is a welcome display of transparency in an industry where many companies seem to be selling questionable products and provide very limited information regarding their operations. The company also sells direct from their website - pricing is competitive with Amazon if you order multiple quantities, and shipping is free. I have not yet used these supplements for sufficient time to determine whether or not they are effective in reducing my triglycerides as claimed. I do not have a triglycerides problem but decided to take supplements as part of an overall program to improve my health and avoid problems as I grow older. I will update this review in 6 months or so if there is anything significant to mention regarding any effect I may see in my own health.

Excellent Marketing, Inferior Absorption Form, Look elsewhere...again EXCELLENT MARKETING
By Jordan on Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2014
FOR ALL PEOPLE NEW TO FISH OIL, PLEASE LISTEN. OmegaVia has a very aggressive, blog-like marketing team pushing this product on the Internet. If one searches "enteric coated fish oil" on Google, their website is the first to come up, listing all the benefits of enteric-coated fish oil, naturally. In fact, just searching any number of questions regarding fish oil will bring up Vin Kutty's blog on omegavia.com (the owner, always a bad sign). The "health blog" is just strangely written, vacillating between product placement and shooing contrary evidence (e.g. about the bioavailibliy of different forms of fish oil) under the rug. Check it out yourself. Enteric coating is almost certainly unnecessary for the absorption of fish oil in the human body (Lovaza, the actual fish oil-based pharmaceutical drug used for lowering triglycerides, is not even enteric coated!) save for a few potential exotic applications such as Crohn's Disease (and even these have marginal benefits). Do not be hoodwinked by marketing. It should be clear this is NOT the triglyceride form of fish oil, the most bioavailible form. This is the ethyl-ester (EE) form, a semi-synthetic form which is easier to manufacture (interestingly, it's the active ingredient in Lovaza as well, which raises all sorts of questions the FDA might be interested in investigating). DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE PROFESSED HIGHER AMOUNTS OF EPA AND DHA. While technically yes there are higher "amounts," this specific form (EE) is more poorly available to the body. This isn't intended to be a product plug, but most of Nordic Natural's stuff is triglyceride form, the primary reason they're so expensive. Bottom line: Don't waste your time with this stuff. They have excellent marketing, but the product is overpriced, less effective than the triglyceride form, and questionably legal due to their addition of an active pharmaceutical ingredient in accordance to the FDA's Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA).
