Great JBL center speaker

Really great, clear sound allowing us to hear the dialogue like we haven't been able to with my older infinity speaker. I knew I needed a change when the kids kept complaining about muddy dialogue with movies and having to turn up the sound all the time. Matches perfectly with my other JBL studio speakers too.

Didn’t like the sound—get the 235 instead if you are doing a studio 2 series set up and have room.

I bought this speaker to match a pair of JBL 230’s, but I found that I really did not like the sound. In quick summary, they just did not sound good. Now I know speakers do get better typically as they break in, (needing probably about 40-100 hours to fully break in), but after about two weeks use they never really sounded better. It was also quite large relative to the size of the 4” woofers—the 235 by comparison is only I think 1.25”—1.5” taller than this one, yet has 6.5” drivers. If you need new speakers, I’d highly recommend the studio 5 series instead—-I just got a pair of JBL studio 580s, and using them for phantom center in place of the 225 was so much better that it made me immediately pack the 225 back up and send it back. I do like the 230’s overall though, so if sticking with the JBL studio 2 line I’d wager the 235 would be much better than this one if you have room for it, as I believe it haas the same woofers as the 230s.
