this camera DOES NOT allow for "camera to computer" file transfer OVER WIFI
By Amazon Customer on Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2016
canon is olympus, at least as far as deceiving customers goes. Or, maybe they were to begin with. In case you didn't know, a few years back Olympus was questioned on their financial reports, some real figures were not actual, as those reported. In canon's case, they want to fool customers into buying their products by falsely claiming camera features that simply are not there. This explains my rating. 1. Canon's product page (www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/products/details/cameras/dslr/eos-rebel-t6i-ef-s-18-55mm-is-stm) states under Features (as of January 10 2016 was still there): Built-in Wi-Fi From uploading photos to social networking sites, emailing family and friends, or archiving images to a computer, the EOS Rebel T6i camera offers a number of easy solutions for sharing. Contrary to what any decent consumer might assume, this camera does NOT allow the user to transfer files (photos or movies) to a computer by using wi-fi. That is, wi-fi is non-existent for this purpose. 2. when contacted, customer support at canon avoid to state this in their replies (they do apologize for the confusion, i.e., in their opinion, a hold up looks like give me your money but I do apologize for you being confused while you are being robbed). They advise anyone to use CANON iMAGE GATEWAY for the purpose of transferring files to a computer. That is, one would need to upload (hence, waste time) their files over to canon's servers in order to be able to download the same files over to a computer (double time wasted). 3. But this is not all. What canon CSRs FAIL to mention is that Canon reserve the rights to use your pictures and movies for any (more or less) purpose, WITHOUT the user knowing it (by signing to their service a user implicitly agrees to their "privacy" policies) and without payment to the owner. I only found out about this upon specifically inquiring about their CANON iMAGE GATEWAY policies. Here is an excerpt from their privacy policies (as per canon CSR): "You retain ownership of Your Content. By uploading Content to the CiG Services You grant Canon (including its affiliated companies and third party service providers and business partners) permission to copy, display and use Your Content for the purpose of providing and promoting the CiG Services. This permission continues until You or Canon deletes the relevant Content from the CiG Services or You or Canon un-register Your Member Account. In recognition that the CiG Services are provided free of charge, You will not be entitled to any payment for the use of Content.” canon, provide what we agreed upon by buying your product and then I decide if I want to use your “free of charge” services. Now it you think this is right, well, there's no hope. This should be reported to FTC. In the meantime, some people might want to look elsewhere for their photography needs.
