Excellent alternative to alcohol-based astringent cleanser
By CJW on Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2024
I've used Stridex/Oxy-type pads for years to clean off dirt and oil that has always seemed to build up incessantly on my face. I kept them at home and in my car and would use several pads a day. Well, come to find out that cleaning/drying your skin out with some kind of alcohol/salicylic acid treatment only causes your body to produce more oil in response to your skin being dry! Doh! What a fruitless and unhealthy cycle. So I turned to trusty Wirecutter and found these Burt's Bees wipes, and wow! They're terrific! They clean my face thoroughly but not harshly, and they're alcohol-free. I don't use them for makeup removal (I'm a typical guy, y'all) so I try to buy the ones that are intended for general cleansing -- the pink grapefruit ones have a slight, pleasant odor. They're gentle enough to use three to five daily. They're moist but not soppy and come in a secure package. Thumbs up.
