Saucony Guide 9's are my favorite running shoe!
By Adam C. Mandelin on Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2016
This is my favorite pair of running shoes to date. I've always wanted to get into running and I asked my brother what shoe company he likes. He's an avid runner and enthusiast and first thing he said was Saucony's. I was already known to sport their classic original Jazz sneakers so I thought I'd try it out. I found out I was an over-pronator from a foot doctor based off of my symptoms (plantar fasciitis) and hurt feet while working in the restaurant industry. They were getting really bad and never even fathomed I'd be a runner. I researched Saucony running shoes and found out that the Guides, Hurricanes and Omnis helped stabilize the feet. Guides sounded like they'd work best for my medial arch, over pronation and the fact I still need some give but still be supportive. My first pair of Guides were the 4's I believe and I've been a huge fan ever since and always keep a pair. About 4 months ago I got deeper into running and set up for my 1st marathon. I bought a pair of the Guide 8's and the 9's. The 8's are definitely a bit stiffer. I use those ones when I go to the gym and I use the 9's for my runs. The 9's are way more comfortable. I just did a 17 1/2 mile run yesterday with no problem. Anyways, if your feet are similar to mine and have a medial arch and splay and over-pronate, these are the shoes for you. Absolutely amazing and I feel for how much I've run in them and how light the material is, they are really well made shoes. By the time any of them have worn out, they have paid for themselves. I am planning on buying 2 more pairs so I can have back ups! Update 10/6/17 I have now run multiple marathons, halfs, trail runs, run about 25-30 miles a week etc. I use the saucing guide 9's for everything. I even use them for basketball, tennis, golf, traveling...I hiked the enchantments in Washington state in them...basically all sports and excursions. They have great heel support and I trust them on the trail too. I now have some Guide 10's on the way and will always stick with this shoe. In the beginning my brother helped me choose Saucony and it's the only shoe I ever needed for running and athletics in general. I've never needed another brand. I don't know how many miles I've put on these shoes but they have lasted way longer than I expected. I used my 2nd pair of guide 9's in the 2016 Rock n Roll marathon and still use them today 10/17. Only issue is over time the outside mesh starts to tear in the pinky toe area, though still functional. Love them so much I even thought of sewing them up haha! I thought these shoes were definitely worth the long review. These shoes, along with the Spenco "total support" insoles in my day to day shoes solved my plantar fasciitis issues linked to over pronation....and I'm constantly on my feet between running and being a server at a restaurant. You need a pair of these shoes! NOW!!!

I should have noticed when right of the box I could wring the shoe out like a wet towel when holding it from heel to ...

The new design of the Guide series shoe is noticeably softer and provides less stability than earlier models. I am a runner/jogger/walker enthusiast putting 10 miles a day, 7 days a week on Saucony Guide series shoes 6, 7 and 8 for the past 3 years and I have found the Guide 9 shoe by Saucony to be painfully disappointing. My knees ache. After 10 days of wearing the new shoes my joints started to hurt and by two weeks my walking turned into a crawl. Three weeks with these shoes and I am done! I should have noticed when right of the box I could wring the shoe out like a wet towel when holding it from heel to toe. My old Guide 8 shoes with 450+ miles are much sturdier by design than the new Guide 9 model. I have switched to another brand shoe with stability features marketed similar to the Saucony Guide series shoes, and I can walk again! My knees should be back to strength in few more days and I will return to jogging. I was a regular customer of Saucony Guide series shoes but the new design of the Guide 9 model with less stability is to painful in my knees to wear these shoes on my feet.
