Comparison Andis Slimline Pro vs Wahl Sterling Mag
By shopathomeguy on Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2022
I used the Wahl Sterling Mag for five years. It has the perfect size, weight, shape, and look. And it is cordless. It is super quiet, the battery lasts long enough, and it doesn't take long for the battery to recharge. And it doesn't really get hot. I just have two complaints. The motor isn't that strong so haircuts take some time. And sometimes my hair gets caught between the blades. I used to take the blades apart each time that it happened, but it was too often. And then I learned that if I just continue cutting my hair for 1-3 seconds, the new hair it is cutting will dislodge the hair already caught between the blades and everything would be okay again. If there was no other cordless clippers of similar size, weight, shape, and look that worked as good or better, I would give the Wahl Sterling Mag 5 stars. But since I just found better clippers, I will give it 3 stars now. The Andis Slimline Pro is pretty much the same size, weight, shape, and look as the Wahl Sterling Mag. The blade felt narrower, but it's the same exact width. Unlike the Wahl Sterling Mag, it is super loud. But that's okay. Because it cuts a lot better. It is less of a struggle to cut my hair now. Not only that, but there is less of a chance (no chance really) of getting nicks when I manscape. I think that maybe there is no chance of getting nicks because the blades are smaller and closer together or something. The Andis Slimline Pro also does not get hot. So yeah, I use this to shave my head now. I used to cut my hair every 7-14 days with the Wahl Sterling Mag and a 3mm guard. With these Andis Slimline Pro clippers, I cut my hair every five days and it seems less of a chore now. I had to use the 1.5mm guard instead though to get the same length cut at the Wahl 3mm guard. I think that the Andis Slimline Pro is kinda better in some other regards too. The outside metal plastic doesn't show fingerprints as much as the shiny Wahl Sterling Mag exterior. The stand seems better. I didn't want my Wahl stand so I threw it away. But I love the Andis stand. The light indicator to let you know that the clippers are charging or already charged is big and nice to look at it. It's a pretty green light. I paid around $80 for the Wahl five years ago, but this Andis was only $60. I'm glad that not only is it cheaper and better, but I didn't have to spend $300 like for some of the other clippers that are often recommended that are bigger and heavier, like the Oster Octane and one other one that I can't remember. I definitely recommend the Andis Slimline Pro and am giving it 5 stars.

Worked great... for about 2 Weeks
By JJ on Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2020
I spent the extra money for this product vs competitors because of Andis' reputation for quality. I've always bought cheaper beard trimmers and decided to spend the extra money to get something that would last and maybe work a little better. The first two times I used it, it was exactly what I had hoped and then some. Super sharp blades, cut really well and the battery life was definitely way better than the norm. I use this primarily to trim my beard and keep things nice and short around my ears, and for a brief moment, it did a better job at both than any that I've owned. Fast forward to yesterday and it has gone COMPLETELY dull! Both times I used it previously, I cleaned it thoroughly, applied some of the oil that it came with, and kept it fullly charged in between uses. When using it this last time, I noticed right off the bat that it was pulling my beard hair pretty badly in one spot on the blades. It was still cutting ok-ish aside from the pulling (so I thought), so I brushed it out well and proceeded to do a quick pass around my ears (where my hair is already extremely short but bothers me when it gets any longer than stubble). This thing completely TRASHED my hair to the point that I first thought I had gotten something sticky in my hair somehow. My hair is now split all the way down to my scalp on both sides around my ears and sideburns. To the point that it almost feels like I burnt my scalp. My GF looked closely and said it looks like someone took a razor blade to each blade of hair and there are a number of hairs that didn't even get cut. I have no idea how a supposedly "high end" trimmer went dull enough in 3 uses to shred my hair, but this is obviously not acceptable. I will be reaching out to the seller and/or returning this item today. Very disappointed.
