Small, Simple, Cheap, AWESOME

Well, I am quite pleased with Blink. Perfect for what I need -- to monitor cat traffic around my home. I have a "half-a-pet" cat that only uses my place as his restaurant and hotel whenever he pleases, and otherwise is out gallivanting heck knows where. Since he can't ring the doorbell, i thought i'd place a camera that can relay an alert to me when he comes to the door (the front and the back). Mission accomplished. The simplicity of the system is outstanding. The set-up was very easy. The customization of parameters is so wonderfully uncomplicated. The fact that i now have a SECURITY camera system as well (which wasn't my initial intention for getting Blink) is a fantastic bonus! Now I see (via recorded clips) anyone and anything that moves in front of the camera. I saw a clip of myself getting in and out of my home. I saw the UPS person deliver my SECOND system of Blink Home Security Camera which I ordered just because I was so pleased with the first one. The support is impressive, for promptness of response, as well as efficacy of suggested fix. I had unplugged the system module because I needed the outlet to do some vacuuming. When I plugged it back in I expected that, yeah, I might have to reconfigure the system module, which was no big deal to do. Everything worked exactly as before...except, there were no images. The camera detected motion, recorded the incidence accordingly (including the audio), sent alerts accordingly...but no image of the recorded clip came up. I immediately emailed Blink customer service. Within a few hours I received an acknowledgment email, and a promise to address my issue within 24-48 hours. The following day I received an personal response email from "Marvin", and he suggested several fixes to try in sequence (if first suggestion didn't work, try the next, etc. etc.) The first suggested fix of uninstalling the Blink app on my iPhone, then reinstalling it, worked like magic. The imaging capability of the system was restored, and things are working again as expected. Yes, Blink Home Security Camera System deserves 5 stars, in my opinion. For ease of set-up, ease of use and control, for the nice image quality (HD-like), for the great customer service, and for the CHEAP price. I do hope it is a well-made, sturdy product that will last a good while.

Not so great after a year

This was my second attempt to find a home security camera system. I returned the Arlo system after 2 days for a number of reasons we won't discuss here. That's in another review. I bought 2 cameras primarily as a test. What I really want are outdoor weather proof cameras. Based on results so far, I pre-ordered 6 of their new outdoor cameras. I mounted them in a sheltered area so they are fine outdoors. Super easy installation. I had it configured in 10 minutes and on the first attempt. The app is simple and easy to use. No complaints about the design or functionality. Sharp image even in low light. Some people don't like the blue LED or LED illumination. I'm fine with that. I like the deterrent impact, particularly at the front door. I'm not trying to hide the camera. It's not being used as a nanny cam. One huge plus over the competing Arlo system is ability to have multiple sync modules to support a broader area. Arlo communicates back to a single proprietary WiFi router connected to your internet connection. Blink cameras communicate over WiFi to your router(s) but also connect to small sync modules that also communicate to your router. Range seems to be about the same as WiFi based on the signal strength graph in the app. If you have a large house or areas where coverage is spotty, just add a relatively inexpensive sync module along with a WiFi mesh network. I have zero connectivity problems but I do see slightly low readings on the sync signal and Wifi. I'm installing a Google Wifi mesh network this week and will probably add another sync module when the outdoor cameras arrive. The mounting bracket is unique but it works. Style won over functionality which is a plus indoors I suppose. Takes some thought to get it to work in a corner installation. I would prefer something more standard or the option to use something from a 3rd party. There is no provision to use standard 1/4" swivel mount which would probably be the preferred method outdoors. I'm surprised somebody hasn't created an adapter. If the outdoor cam has the same design, I'm sure somebody will design a solution and it will be on Amazon. I haven't contacted support for problems but they were very responsive when I asked questions about how the cameras communicate. UPDATE: 3/3/2017 Take away a star. Maybe two tomorrow. Trying to add a second sync module. It's not working. Configures buy any attempt to arm or add a camera results in a message "System is busy please wait". I've reset the entire system. Not working. UPDATE: 9/30/2018 Take away another star. Battery life is horrible! I switched to USB power to eliminate this problem. Would not buy these again. If I have to go through the labor of adding cables to power these, then I might as well buy a real system. They are reliable. None have failed. That's a plus.
