St Louis) has a pretty good Roku app
By Craig on Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2017
If I could give negative stars, I would. I purchased this item to replace a cable box, as my cable company, Spectrum (Charter, St Louis) has a pretty good Roku app. I already have a TCL/Roku 4k/UHD Smart TV, and am extremely pleased with the Roku software and service. I already knew that this device could replace a standard cable box serving another TV, in another room (no DVR). So after doing a little homework, and seeing that the remote included with all Roku Streaming Sticks and Streaming Sticks+ was the "Enhanced Remote," which had the capability to control power and volume to the TV, I knew I couldn't go wrong! The item was received very quickly (within 2 days, Prime). The compact box was in an oversized padded envelope that my postal carrier was able to shove into my mailbox. No damage to the inner, unprinted box (this was supposed to be a refurbished unit, so I was not expecting a retail box). Setup was easy, and logging into my existing Roku account from the streaming stick automatically loaded all of the streaming apps that I already had on my RokuTV onto the Steaming Stick (as the device is connected to a TV used by my children, I unlinked the device from my current Roku account, and created a new account for this device, thereby allowing me to have different apps oon both devices - No HBO, Showtime, or other potentially risqué channels). As the Streaming Stick, itself, was working fine, I ran my old cable box up to the cable company. While the Steaming Stick worked great, it was at this time that I learned that I did not have the enhanced remote. The packaging material, specifically the instructions for pairing, and seeing up the remote, clearly indicated that it was supposed to be the "Enhanced Remote." So, I contacted the vendor, MallStop, who merely stated that the device didn't include the "Enhanced Remote." I replied to them, and advised them that the included documentation indicated otherwise, and that Roku's support pages indicate that all Roku Streaming Sticks and Streaming Sticks+ sold since 2017 include the Enhanced Remote. Their reply was simply that the device I purchased was manufactured in 2016, that had no "Enhanced Remotes," and if I didn't like it, I could return it to Amazon, as they fulfilled the order. Sure, I _could_ return it, but now that I got rid of the cable box, that TV could no longer be used to watch TV. I sent them a photo of the documentation specifying the inclusion of the "Enhanced Remote," as well as the box, which shows it was manufactured in June of this year (2017). I realize that one can buy a replacement standard Roku remote for $2.99, but enhanced remotes sell for $24.99 - $34.99, on eBay. Hmmm... I wonder... Nah...
