Squishy
By Jack Billeaud on Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2025
I was born with six toes in each foot. Six. Can you image that? SIX TOEZ! It’s a lot, to say the least, to carry. But alas, a year ago I got them removed. My wittle special pinky winky +1 friends. Gone. Vanished. They wouldn’t even let me keep them. All I have left is the meager little rotting toenail clippings from my extra little pinky toes, and aching feet that split open and bleed. Alas we prevail. I knew I had to do something about it. So I ordered these Dr sholes shoe insurts for my sketcher easywalks. Now my lonely FIVE toes on each foot land in a soft bed of orthopedic gel with each step.

Not as much cushion as I expected
By Zero Signal on Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2024
I bought these insoles specifically because I have a pair of military jungle boots that are hard on the feet. The soles are hard rubber and the insoles that come with them are thin with padding that isn't enough by itself. I weigh north of 200 lbs. and if I don't add some cushioning, my feet start to really hurt after a day or two of wearing them. I had some other insoles in them before that were OK, but I wore them out and decided to try these gel ones. I'd used them before in another pair of boots and they seemed fine so after looking at a zillion different insole types and brands, I bought them again. Trimming to fit is easy with a pair of scissors, and they fit my boots fine. When you take them out of the package, you get the impression that you'll be walking on air. The gel is thick and squishy, and they sure seem like they'll be comfortable. However, if you're heavy like me, you'll soon realize that your body weight will squash them pretty flat when you walk on them. It's particularly apparent with my jungle boots because there's very little compliance in the sole-- it's RIGID, and these insoles just don't have enough thickness or cushion to be comfortable with such a hard sole. I wore them for a day and could feel my feet getting fatigued. My workaround was to reuse the factory insoles for the boot and then put these gel insoles on top. This is not the most elegant solution (I wanted to use a single insole instead of layers) but it adds just enough cushion that I can walk on these boots all day and not feel foot fatigue. I actually bought two pairs of these insoles at the same time. The second set went into a set of logger boots. Again, these are boots with very hard soles and minimal internal padding. In that case I removed the gel insoles completely and instead used a pair of Walk Hero insoles that I had bought on Amazon months before. The Walk Hero insoles have minimal padding but, oddly enough, are more comfortable in these boots (to my feet at least). They're designed to mitigate plantar fasciitis, which I've had in the past, and in the case of my logger boots they do a better job of protecting my feet. So these gel insoles work, but not always by themselves. If you're heavy and/or you buy these for shoes or boots with very hard soles, you may have to use another insole with them. For the price it's worth experimenting with them, but keep in mind that you may have to combine them with other insoles, or switch them out altogether if your feet don't like them. One last thing. Like I said before, I've used these gel insoles in another pair of boots. From experience I can tell you that you'll be replacing them yearly or maybe sooner depending on how many miles you put on them. The gel gets mashed down to nothing and the cushioning disappears. This isn't a big deal, especially for the price, but if your feet start hurting again after a while, it's probably time to order a new pair.
