Amazing shampoo
By Miriam on Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2025
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I have 4c hair texture that has loosened since I get silk presses fairly often. I definitely feel like it makes my hair stronger. It does dry it out, but I just follow up with a moisturizing shampoo and deep condition and it's perfectly fine. I've always had an issue retaining length, but that has changed since l've been consistently using this (sometimes in company with Olaplex ) and making sure that I get a good deep condition after.

Great for hair, bad for acne
By Jordyn on Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2024
I bought olaplex no.'s 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9. Shampoo, bond repair, conditioner, leave in cream, gel, and bonding oil. First of all, this cost a lot of money. No. 3 is supposed to be like a post shampoo, but pre conditioner mask. I had to do a lot of research after I left it on for the recommended time and it was just eh. I read that people who had damaged hair should leave it on for long like 60 to 90 minutes. I wash out the shampoo quickly, after only putting it on my scalp and letting the rinse out clean the mud and ends. I also leave the conditioner in for 20ish minutes. It did work a lot better and I am happy with it. My hair feels better and softer, my split ends seem to want to break off and I know I need to trim them soon. No. 9 is called a nourishing serum and is actually like a gel, which I did NOT realize, so I had to buy no. 6. Curly hair doesn't do well without a leave in conditioner and no. 9 just didn't do the trick. The bonding oil (7), which I started using a week or so before everything else, seems to work for heat treating and as a smoothing, finishing oil? The verdict is still out. This was a lot of effort (and money) on my part to figure out what was what and how to use it. *Side note: my scalp does get more oily and I used to wash my hair twice a week, now I have to more. THE BIGGEST CON: I struggle with acne, I'm even on an antibiotic for it and after a week or two of using these products I started having CYSTIC breakouts. Not just pimples, but big, deep cysts that did not would not go away easily. All over my forehead, sides of my face, jawline, and neck. I started having back acne, which I haven't really had before. All the places my hair touches most. I've read that some people who don't have acne, don't struggle with this, but I switched back to my old conditioner and leave in and my face started clearing up. When I ran out I had to use olaplex again. I'm now attempting @mikaylanogueira 's recommendation for a skincare routine after thoroughly rinsing out the conditioner. I really need my hair to be repaired, but I'm going back to CurlSmith leave in and gel immediately. If this doesn't work for clearing up my face I'll have to switch all of it as soon as I can afford to. If it does work I will still be looking to find a replacement for the heat protection part of the bonding oil. After I use all of the the shampoo and conditioner I will replace that with something else. I won't be buying this again, even if my hair does look better.
