Great for STEM based activities for toddlers, preschoolers - letter game is the best!
By buzz on Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2019
My friend recommended Osmo for a while but I always felt the activities were too advanced for my 2 year old (at the time) Then I found out they released this junior version. My son is now 3 years old and this is perfect for him. It comes with 2 games. A costume / dress up game and an alphabet game. The dress up one he played for about 10 minutes which isn’t bad. But then we switched to the alphabet one and he must have played it for a good 30 minutes!! He loves the little monster and follows everything he says to do. The game basically provides you a bunch of “segments” and you piece them together to make the letter. And then to use those same “segments” to make an object that starts with the letter. They give you an example of one which is great for toddlers. My 9 year old was watching from the side and eagerly wanted to play with it. Even though she is older she actually liked being able to see the suggested object and improvising her own creation. Eventually she wanted to come up with her own creation without seeing the suggested one. I felt the letter game really encourages creativity. Matching shapes and colors. Practice letter sounds. The costume game is a fun bonus but it did not encourage much creativity since you have to lay down the piece of clothing that matches the one shown on the screen. Other than that, I’m really glad they came out with a set suited for 2-3 year olds.

Great concept but not worth it yet - too many issues

Updated: DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU HAVE A FIRE TABLET. After the upgrades on the fire very few of the games work and even more games are buggy. I can currently only play 1 game.. it's not worth it. I was really excited for this for my 3 year old. We don't have many screen time activities for her and I though this would be a great mix of hands on and screen time activities. Firstly - the base is big, so this is awkward and tricky to store. There's only 1 good case out there but it's all huge. The ipad one looks much sleeker and smaller (and from what I can tell less buggy) Secondly - the games. Overall they aren't developed enough, too limited in functionality and don't progress with difficulty to make things more challenging. - Counting Town only goes to 10 currently, so is not worth it. It was too basic for my 3 year old, no idea how they think it's suitable for 3 - 5 year olds. - Shape Builder - we are yet to get this game to work - i've been going back and forth with support and have sent logs, and it won't load - Costume Party - not worth it as a game - we've barely played it - Stories - this is my daughters favorite. It's a great concept and really responsive to when you change the costumes on the character, however there are limited stories so feels like we do the same stories over and over again. There's no way to make it more difficult or progress in anyway - ABC's - good for practicing letters and sounds, again very simple and no way to make it more difficult - Squiggle Magic - This is a good one, it's open ended so you can create characters and place them in these settings. Limitation is really that there aren't many settings and your settings fill up with the characters you've made. I really wanted to love this but have been so disappointed with how limited it is.
