Kitsch Rice Water Shampoo Bar | Vegan & All Natural

I got this bar based on a Wirecutter review and then discovered that my sister uses another kitsch shampoo bar which she loves. I really love the idea of getting as many plastic bottles out of my life as possible. I also thought a bar like this would be ideal for travel. I have been using it for a few weeks now. The jury is still out. First, I am very sensitive to scent and out of the package, this bar had an overwhelming fragrance. I thought it might “off gas” in a couple of days, and it did, but I nearly tossed it out on day one because of the smell. I read that all the scents they use are all natural - I have had bad headaches in the past from artificial fragrance but do okay with essential oils - which is why I waited it out and it did dissipate after a few days. It is not unpleasant once it calms down and isn’t too strong on my hair. It lathers up great for me. I am guessing it all depends on your water. My disappointment is because there seems to be a residue buildup that makes my hair feel dirtier faster than it used to with a bottled shampoo. My sister has had the opposite experience with a different bar (her hair seems to feel cleaner for longer) so it may be the rice water in this bar, I don’t know. I will continue to use this for a while longer to see if it helps with fall out. Or I may alternate use with some other shampoo to see if that helps with the build up. I am sad that this didn’t work as I had hoped, but am willing to keep trying for a little while longer. I was hoping to find my “forever shampoo”
