The slip is slipping!
By Dr. O on Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2025
I used this on my daughter’s hair. We fast and pray to prepare for wash day! Using this product in small sections on hair after wetting it made the brush glide through! After a clarifying wash her hair felt very soft even before conditioning. And best of all NO TEARS! My daughter said she loves the “poopoo” on her hair:-) This stuff is the truth!

NIGHTMARE PRODUCT!!
By Rebecca on Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2024
I'm 47 years old and I used to have amazing curly hair. But NOT so much anymore! After using this product, it will take a couple YEARS for my hair to get back to normal. This is NOT a detangler, it completely TANGLED my hair. It made the texture of my hair disgusting and nearly IMPOSSIBLE to undo the knots. It made all my curls turn into a birds nest (like the texture of brillo pads - wish I were joking). I have never lost so much hair in my life. My hair is now thinned out and completely frayed at the ends. I'm trying to work with my "new normal" to the best of my ability. I'm jealous of anyone that received their product damaged and decided not to buy it again. I wish that were my story. I have never written a negative review on Amazon. And the only reason I'm writing this review is to hopefully save another person's gorgeous hair. I'm shocked at the positive reviews. The only thing I can think of is maybe this product is TERRIBLE for certain hair types. I'm so upset I only read the positive reviews. Had I read the one star reviews (I read them, after the fact!), I would NEVER have bought this bottle. I only have myself to blame. I will ALWAYS read bad reviews going forward. Now it's too late. And all I can do is warn others to BEWARE!! If you think this product will work on your hair, PLEASE test a small area of your hair first. Get in the shower and try to wash it out. At first, the product seemed to go into my hair beautifully. It was when I got in the shower and wet my hair, that all my curls were horrifically knotted, with horrible unruly texture. That was when I knew all hell was breaking (pun intended) loose. I cut and pasted the following one star review. I felt my experience was very similar to hers, although I wasn't at the beach... it was an ordinary day for me - that turned out to be everything but ordinary =(. "African Pride Moisture Miracle Detangle and Condition Pre-Shampoo is by far the WORST detangling blend I've ever used...hands down! If I could give this a minus five (-5) star review, I certainly would. For a hair brand that allegedly targets our community with naturally curly and/or textured hair, it is an extreme let-down. Here's how it went down: Came back from the beach (yes, got my hair wet at the beach), but by the time I got home, my hair was dry from the beach water and a bit looser, though still tangled up. I used a substantial amount of this product directly on my dry hair. I started noticing the already tangled knots in the back of my hair beginning to get more clumped and shape into thicker balls. I let it sit for about 3-5 minutes and started detangling my hair from the front edges with my Love Ur Curls detangling brush (love the brush!). Zip...nada...niente. Knots of hair were getting worse. I wet my hair in the shower, applied more of this product, and let it sit for another 6 minutes before continuing to detangle. It got even worse. I applied my Luv Ur Curls conditioner on top of this already hotmess.com, since such conditioner is the product I usually use to detangle my hair, although I've been desperately trying to find a good detangling formula so that I can make my conditioner last longer. I continued detangling my hair in what became one of the worst experiences in my life. When I tell you that big balls of brillo pads had formed on the sides and the back of my head from the knotted and tangled hair, I am NOT exaggerating. It took me about 1.5 to 2 hours in the shower to completely detangle my hair, witnessing inevitable breakage in the process, along with a huge ball of lost, bundled hair, unlike anything I have ever experienced before. I have not done an exact measurement but I speculate I have type 3B or 3C curls, I'm Caribbean, so I have fine hair strands and really curly hair, but not as textured or with as tight curls as those with super curly hair of direct African descent. My hair gets tangled in a terrible way, and nothing seems to work as an efficient detangler. I decided to give this a try, but again...the worst decision I ever made (thank GOD for my Love Ur Curls conditioner, which came to the rescue!). I even had to do two sessions of my intensive hair mask treatment (a total of 1 hour: 30 minutes first session, rinse off, and 30 minutes second session with another hair mask), in order for me to hydrate and somewhat rescue my hair. TO CONSUMERS: products like these, that tend to be a clear, custard product, hardly ever work for folks like us with curly hair, but not as textured or coily. It may work for the latter segment of the population, but not for the former (folks like me). What we need is a product that feels like an actual conditioner and has a lot, a lot, a LOOOOOOT of slipperiness...otherwise these "custards" simply sit on the hair and, in this particular instance, make matters worse. Run away from such clear or yellowish custards!!! TO THE VENDOR: before you issue your usual apologetic response and try to make it up to me by offering me a free product, please note: *no*, I do not want any free products from your hairline, and please be more consumer conscientious when it comes to making products that actually work and that actually target our community with naturally curly and/or textured hair, since we already struggle hard enough as it is, spending hours on Google and other outlets trying to come up with decent products for our specific hair type, 70% of them which are ineffective and a complete waste of time, money and effort...just like yours is."
