Serious Nut and Stick Shaver Review
By bill on Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2024
To preface, this is my 5th electric shaver in my quest to find a good nut and stick shaver. It’s going to be a long review for those interested. TLDR: It sucks if you have thick hair. My coconuts were nicked, hurt, and left whimpering in the shower. I didn’t even risk the cucumber. I am a man of the Asian persuasion. Meaning, I am almost hairless everywhere, except my no no square. Unmanaged, it makes the Amazon jungle look like freshly mowed grass. I’m not exactly a footlong sub, but I’m not exactly a six inch flatbread either. I got some big ol’ meatball marinaras to work with too. My missus prefers trimmed, but not smooth shaved surfaces. If too smooth, my body’s defense mechanisms decides to grow thorns within a day or two, which is painful for my beautiful wife’s perfect skin to deal with. The hair must be just long enough to stay soft, but not too long to become humid and nasty. How demure. My hair is what L’Oreal commercials are inspired by. Black, coarse, shiny unbreakable hair Jada Smith wishes her bald ass head would have. I have a personal hatred for her - cheating on your mans with your son’s friend is nasty work. God gave her that chrome dome as punishment. Anyways, it’s the kind of hair you can pull knots out with brute force. The roots will always give up before my hair does. I would trust my hair over a rope in an emergency. My hair holds me together stronger than babies hold together marriages. This razor sucks at dealing with it. Awful, worst of the bunch. I tried initially using the guard attachment, but after 25 thousand passes, I gave up and took it off. Then came the horrors. So much pain. I enjoy pulling hair, but not having mine pulled. I am still sore from the razor burns. I am very good at doing this after many years, but that was rough. I got to find out the battery life was a bit more than the 30 minutes it said it was, because it took so painfully long to shave, it died first. Absolutely worthless for me. I gave up and pulled out my trusty Henson razor instead, and shaved them babies bald. I should sue for emotional damage from the weinering I’m going to miss out on during the next few days. For those who are gonna @ me and blame me for improper technique, I am a man who used to shave my jewels with a straight razor. If you don’t know how much trust in your abilities you need to do that, don’t talk to me. This razor is mid af.

I was on the fence to rate this a 2 star or a 3 star, but ultimately leaned on 2 stars for how it applies to my use case. To each their own and I won't say others are wrong, but I am surprised by how many 5 star ratings there are. I always aim to rate as high as I think a product deserves, but I am shaking my head at this one. For context, I am not a huge fan of shaving and if I could totally remove all my facial hair for life I would pay good money to do so. I work from home 4 days a week and I can push off shaving to 2 times a week at most. What I find is that I hate the process of shaving with a razor ie; wash face, shaving cream etc. So I looked for a product where I could do a "quick once over" here and there to reduce the stubble to be more presentable during the longer facial hair days and make the shaving days easier. Something that would not require the time to wet the face, apply the cream, let it sit a few minutes, shave, rinse the face and finally dry it. From looking through products, I came across this one. I have other Philips Norelco products and have been very happy with them. The marketing looked good and really seemed to do what I wanted. After receiving this product and using it, my opinion soured quite a bit. There is nothing quick about this product. I don't have thick facial hair and in fact at over 50 years old I still grow a thin spotty beard. So thickness is not the issue. However, after setting this product up and doing my shave, it was painfully slow. Does it shave? Yes, that is why it is not a 1 star. However, it does not tear through the hair. It required many passes up and down through the same area to shave to it set height. All I could think was that it would be quicker to just shave will razors and cream. One other downside is that this razor is not a clean solution. This is not a big surprise since it does not look like it would catch the shaved whiskers. But, it will get hair particles over a wide area where you are standing. Even with a razor and cream, the shaved whiskers stay on the blade and in the cream. With other electric razors, the shaved hair will stay within the device for the most part. The benefit of this is that you can shave anywhere and if it takes a little more time, so be it. You can do it anywhere in a fairly clean manner. With this razor, that cannot happen. All the shaved hair falls where you are. There is no catch nothing. As noted above, this product does not look like it would do that. My point though is that if this razor was efficient and I needed to stand in the shower or over the sink and I was done in 2 minutes, I could deal with that. My first shave took at least 12 minutes standing in one place going over the same areas multiple times. Worst yet, I have not even got to the value proposition many other lower star reviews talk about such as the real world useful life of the blades versus the cost to replace them. Overall, I think this is an interesting idea, but I think it is overall flawed. Maybe the cleanliness issue could be solved by shaving in the shower since this is waterproof. However, considering that I do not believe this shaves well when dry, I have a hard time believing it would work better when all the hair is wet. You do you, but if you are looking for a clean and convenient/quick solution, then consider other alternatives. I would like to return this but I am on the fence. I have used it and I don't think it is cool that my razor could get sent to another person in any way. I may eat the cost and use this here and there until the blades are toast. Overall, I am not really happy with this product.
