Hidden Treasures
I thought geocaching was a thing that people did to have fun, not to give out treats from grandma. A high-tech treasure hunt sounded so awesome on the website, but I was kind of hoping the results of a hard day’s hike would be a little more exciting. Quirky, even. Instead, I find peanut brittle. Awesome. Someone’s getting a very nasty email for me when I get home.
At least the Bushnell ONIX 400 GPS System with XM Weather wasn’t a disappointment. I never would have found my way up this mountain without its georeferenced satellite images that instantly calibrate to adjust for heading and location. The coordinates of the “prize” were easy to find via the extra large 3.5” full color LCD display, especially with the self calibrating 3-axis digital compass and other navigational aids right there on the screen via TruView Navigation. And with my fantastic, yet sold separately, XM Satellite Radio subscription, not only can I keep track of NEXRAD weather data with XM NavWeather, but can rock back down the mountain to any of its many stations.
Well, heck. I guess since I’m already up here, I might as well enjoy the brittle of my labor. I wonder how long it’s been here. Does brittle even go bad? Guess it’s worth a shot. After all, what else could possibly be in a can clearly labeled “Peanut Brittle”? Anything else would be a cruel practical joke.
