Even a Neato XV-12 All Floor Robotic Vacuum can have a hard time living clean.

Naturally, I was excited at first. What an honor, right? Manny Southdakota had chosen me to be his full-time cleaning robot. The Manny Southdakota, famed for his lavish fortune and his love of gadgets!

Now, I’d known I wasn’t a total nobody. I mean, after all, it’s not every day that you meet a vacuum robot that can easily adapt to new room arrangements or return automatically to its base for recharging and then resume cleaning where it left off. Not to mention, I pack the largest dirt bin of any of my kind, and I can handle carpet, hardwood, Pergo, all that stuff. But still, getting chosen by a famous gadget enthusiast? That’s not something you ever expect, you know?

My first few weeks of service were glorious. I arrived in Manny’s mansion in Miami and immediately went about tidying things up. In fact, I was so worried about making a good impression that I didn’t really give myself a chance to take in my surroundings.

Well, after a little while I felt confident enough in my work to just have a look around, and let me tell you, I was not so pleasantly surprised with what I saw.

From the stories I’d heard, Manny had made his fortune in the bottling industry. The conversations he had with his friends, however, painted a different picture entirely. I often found myself cleaning a room while some shady deal or another was going down. It made me feel so uncomfortable that it took every circuit in me not to just seek out my recognized doorway and high-tail it to another room, cleaning be damned.

And to make things worse, it appeared that some of the illegal activities involved the gadgets themselves. Here was a smart phone receiving a text message about a “new shipment.” There was a powerful sub woofer riddled with bullet holes. On the coffee table sat a new iPad that Manny had secured through his connections, its screen already covered with a thin residue of white powder from some party or another.

That’s what eventually did me in, all the parties. Obviously, I never attended any of them. But, before anyone had awoken the next morning, I’d have to go around, sucking up whatever dust or pills had been dropped. It wasn’t long before I’d developed a bit of a bad habit.

Then, Manny went on vacation, just up and disappeared for a whole month. There were no parties, so there was none of the usual stuff to clean up. I was useless. I felt like I couldn’t live. That’s when I realized I had to make a change. So I got outta there and checked into this facility.

Now, I’m just about ready to step back into the world. I’m looking forward to going to a nice quiet home. Sure, the floors may not be as beautiful as Manny’s were and I probably won’t be able to look out the window and watch the sun set over the beach, but that’s okay. I could use some peace and quiet.
