“Five times. And tell me: did his route take him through the wooded area of the rough?”

Yes, a few times.

“A few times. Hard to reach the hole in four strokes if even two or three of those happened in the woods, isn’t it?”

I wouldn’t know. I don’t actually know much about golf. I’m just a navigator.

“I see. So, then, once the defendant was on the green, how many distinct locations did he stop at, for at least long enough to make a putt?”

Three.

“That’s five stops before the green and three stops on it. Eight stops total. Each stop easily long enough to make a shot. And yet the defendant claims to have birdied the infamous ‘Backbreaker’. Tell me, Mr. Callaway GPS: does that sound plausible to you?”

I… I don’t know. It’s hard for me to believe my owner would cheat.

“Do you believe your own maps? Because your own maps indicate that the defendant’s route was not consistent with a quick, clean birdie on hole #6. I’ll ask you again: does that score sound plausible?”
