Quick: if you knew nothing about this product except that it was called the “Atomic Waveceptor,” would you buy one? Maybe it’d be a device that captures ambient nuclear radiation and bestows unimaginable atomic powers to its wearer. Maybe it can intercept the mysterious waves emitting from alien civilizations in distant galaxies. Maybe it’d be, like, a rocket-sled kind of thing that can soar on invisible waves of energy and shoot bolts of atomic lightning at all those who displease you.

Unfortunately, turns out it’s just a watch. And by “just a watch,” we mean “a decent watch that keeps good time, but is nowhere near as cool as its name.” The Casio Atomic Waveceptor receives radio signals that calibrate the time to an atomic clock, and it can show the current time in 29 time zones and 30 cities around the world. No watch could ever live up to such a thrilling, evocative name, but five alarms, 50-meter water resistance, and a pre-programmed auto-calendar are swell features nonetheless. The red face, er, well, it certainly has character, wouldn’t you say? As for the unimaginable atomic powers, we’ll just have to keep hanging around outside the nuclear plant hoping for a freak accident, or at least a bite from a passing spider.
