If it wasn’t for me, you never even would’ve even looked twice at it. Remember when somebody gave us chumby One for a wedding present? “Don’t you have enough little devices cluttering up our home?” you said. “News, sports scores, photo slideshows, trivia, stock quotes, weather, Woot, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter – you already spend most of your waking hours looking at those on your computer. Do you really need an always-on stream of that stuff on your nightstand or in the kitchen, too?”

You didn’t let a day pass without sniping at me about my so-called “information addiction.” Never mind that there are no subscription fees for chumby and that all we needed to use it was the home wireless network we already had. You didn’t see the point in chumby, so I must’ve been an idiot to enjoy it. I should’ve known then that this marriage wouldn’t last. But I had no idea what was about to happen next.

Somehow, you realized that chumby’s 1500 free apps included I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER? And Cute Overload. And celebrity gossip, and fashion news, and Pandora Internet radio, and a pug that licks the 3.5” LCD touchscreen from the inside. By the time you found Panda Cam, I’d lost the chumby for good.

But here’s where it ends. I hope you’ve got a good lawyer, because – actually, I hope you have a terrible lawyer, that was just a taunt. My point is, the chumby is staying with me. I’m open to granting you visitation rights, but only in a supervised setting. The flight risk is too great. And I’m not going to let you commit LOLcat abuse on that poor thing ever again.

Requirements

Broadband Internet connection. The Internet connection needs to be highspeed, such as cable or DSL. chumby will not work with a dial-up connection
Wireless router or wired Ethernet connection
Wireless: chumby is compatible with most wireless routers with the settings of 802.11g/802.11b (or mixed). Most routers currently sold offer these settings. Routers that mention 802.11n may work with the chumby as long as they properly support 802.11g or 802.11b. To see a list of routers specifically tested on chumby, click here
Wired Ethernet: chumby works with most USB Ethernet adapters. To see a list of adapters specifically tested on chumby, click here
Computer. You need access to a computer to activate your chumby as well as set up the apps you want to show on it. Once your chumby is set up, you only need occasional access to a computer if you want to change the apps that play on your chumby
