When you’ve fallen so far, sometimes your only option is to get back up.

I pick at my links with my fork before drawing in a deep breath. Better to just lay it on him, I decide. He might be upset for a while, but it’s better than the alternative. “Listen, Josh…”

Josh throws up his hand to cut me off. “What I’m trying to tell you, Bobby,” he says after he swallows his last bit of biscuit, “is that I’m tired of running. I like it here. I like this life. I’ve got a nice place, a decent lady-friend, and all my digital files backed-up in one place for the first time in my life.” He wipes his mouth with a napkin, and then tosses it on to his empty plate before standing. “I don’t care who’s coming for us. This time, I’m staying. Now play the waitress, will you? I gotta go to the bathroom.”
