“Sonny Justice,” said the woman in the leotard. “Remember me?”

Polly Greene. Sonny remembered her. How could he forget the only woman he ever truly loved? The only woman he could have spent his life beside? But right now, here, standing beside General Gutierez and closing the deal that would bust the largest cartel the world had ever seen, Sonny couldn’t afford to remember her. Or let her remember him.

“Sorry, babe,” Sonny grinned while his heart was breaking. “Don’t think I ever saw you before.”

Out of the corner of his eye, Sony watched the General. He seemed annoyed, but not suspicious. But Sonny had to end this quickly.

“Sonny, it’s me!” Polly tried again. “It’s Polly! Don’t you remember me?”

Sonny longed to throw his arms around her, to yell yes, yes Polly, of course I remember you, I still have the Disney Mix Max High School Musical Movie 4GB Movie/MP3 Player you gave me all those years ago when High School Musical was still cool, the player that’s full of your MP3 mixes, your WMV video files, the player that’s expandable up to 20 gigs in the same way you expanded my heart… but instead, he swallowed it down, and just said “Nope.”

The General began to shift in his seat. Sonny was out of time.

“Look, babe,” Sonny said as he reached for his wallet. “I guess if you know a guy like me, you have to be a working girl, right? So here, take this-” Sonny held out a few hundred dollars ”-and hang around, okay? Then when I get done with business, you and me and a few of your friends can have a little fun. Sound good, Paula? What do you say?”

Polly looked at the money, then at Sonny’s face. In her eyes, Sonny could see her heart breaking, all those sweet memories washing away. Her eyes were cold as she turned and left him. There was nothing he could ever say to win her back. And yet, Sonny’s grin never left his face as he turned to the General.

“Guess I’m free later.” Sonny laughed. “Women, huh?” The General nodded back with a sly smile, and all was well again. But as the men walked to the private plane to finalize their deal, Sonny reached into his pocket, touching his Disney Mix Max High School Musical Movie 4GB Movie/MP3 Player with one finger. And behind his mirrored sunglasses, he blinked back a single devastated tear.
