Location, Location, Location
You can’t really know where you are until you know where you’ve been – or until you get the Garmin Rino 110, a devilishly clever, dashingly handsome hybrid of a two-way radio and a GPS device. The standard 14 channels of FRS communication are joined by Garmin’s muscular 12-channel GPS receiver to let you beam your position to another Rino user within two miles (plus or minus a mile – usually minus). They call it Peer-to-Peer Positioning, and unlike other peer-to-peer activities, this one won’t get you in dutch with Lars Ulrich.
(Unless you’re, like, camping with him or something, and you beam him an urgent SOS, and he comes running through the underbush to your GPS location, only to discover that you’ve been putting him on for laughs. He might not like that. But he probably wouldn’t sue you over it.)
The Rino 110 doesn’t come with any maps, and near as we can tell, you can’t download any, either. We’re guessing that’s probably why this particular product was available for such a piddling sum. But it does offer standard navigation features like waypoint storage, TracBack technology, multiple position formats, and a trip computer. Best of all, this is the only waterproof two-way radio on the open market, which is of great interest to those of us who refuse to believe the mainstream media lies about Atlantis and insist on searching out the truth ourselves. (Because we spend a lot of time underwater, see.)
