A Little Bit Bigger Now
At last, a portable video device that takes the tiny picture from your 5th-generation iPod and makes it somewhat bigger, but not so much bigger that you’re carrying around a full-sized TV! This reminds us of that old joke about the massive effort and expense of developing the “Space Pen” and the Soviets’ ten-cent solution to the same problem: The common pencil.
If the Soviets were still around, and instead of a space race, we were embroiled in a portable video entertainment race, we bet their answer to the Sonic Impact v55 video player would be… a pair of magnifying eyeglasses. It’s perfect, right? The magni-specs would never run out of juice, they’d be way more portable, and—unlike the v55—they’d be compatible with all video devices, not just 5th-generation iPods.
But here’s where we at Woot turn this scenario inside-out. Thanks to our ruthless cheapskatery, the v55 would probably be cheaper than a good pair of magnifying lenses. Take that, Ivan!

Due to a recent change in Apple iTunes software, the Nano 3G and the iPod Classic will no longer broadcast a video signal to the Video 55 when docked in the docking connector.
With Apple’s software change, the only way to view video on any existing video player, including the Video 55, is to purchase Apple’s iPod Composite Video Cable, available at Apple retail stores and Apple online at: http://store.apple.com
The cable would be used by plugging one end into the 30-pin plug on the iPod or Nano and the other end into the “AV In” plug on the side of the Video 55.
Please note that this software change by Apple does not affect the ability to play music from the iPod or Nano through the Video 55 speakers. Previous versions of the iPod are not affected by this change. All previous versions that have video capability can play video through the Video 55 when docked.
