Sony calls the VAIO VGC-RB40 a “desktop PC,” but a better place to set it up might be in the middle of the nearest road. Representing the leading edge of home computing circa eighteen months ago, this machine has been lapped a couple of times in the hotness stakes but it’s still got a lot of miles left in it. Just imagine how much it would have thrilled your February 2005 self.

Besides, one man’s “slightly outdated” is another man’s “incredibly cheap” – and we’re hoping you’re that second man. It would be a crime to waste its Hyper-threading 3GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor, its 200GB 7200 RPM SATA hard drive, its DVD+R Double Layer/DVD±RW drive, its 16x PCI Express card slot, or its six USB 2.0 and two FireWire ports. Put down the computer mag. Take a moment to clear your head. You’ll probably realize it’s better than whatever you’re browsing on now. After you deploy your credit card to transfer the appropriate amount of funds to us, feel free to haul that old machine to the dumpster – from now on, you’re in the VAIO business, and business is good!

Oh, wait, go back out to the dumpster and get the monitor. You’ll still need it.
