Far, Far Away Bound And Down
In May 1977, one movie was released that was destined to change the box office forever. Along with the two sequels, the movie defined, and in some ways created, a very specific stereotype. Today a whole new generation knows the movie from videotapes and dvd and keeps the dream alive. The story of a smuggler and his loyal companion who get help from a friend as they rescue a young woman in the process of trying to escape an evil authority figure. Of course, we’re talking about Smokey & The Bandit. What a great film.
Another movie that came out that month was Star Wars. It wasn’t as good, but Peter Cushing was pretty cool. Now you can celebrate the runner-up with The Star Wars Vault: 30 Years of Treasures From the Lucasfilm Archives. You’ll get so much stuff. Look at that picture. Photos, posters, copies of handwritten script pages, animation cells, tons of behind the scenes details, and best of all, two Compact Discs with vintage radio commercials, cast interviews, excerpts from the NPR radio drama and Carrie Fisher’s song from the Star Wars Holiday Special. Which is sort of a prequel to her book about rehab, if you think about it.
The Star Wars Vault: 30 Years of Treasures From the Lucasfilm Archives is just the thing for the poor souls who can’t yet accept that Jackie Gleason would have been the perfect Jabba the Hutt. We think it’s good enough to make you take off your hat.
