A Woot Classic Moment
We’re having so much fun being lazy reading these old write-ups that we’ve decided to share them with you through the end of our 10th birthday month! Check out this refurb- uh, classic.
American Chopper (November 2007): It’s go time.
I pull on my black pleather flight gloves. With a faint whimper of protest, the petro-textile strains to contain my fat fingers (it’s genetic). I adjust my sunglasses. Not Ray-Bans, but you can’t tell from a distance, and anyway they don’t carry Ray-Bans for $5.99 at the gas station. I grip the infrared remote. A thrill runs through my whole body.
I own the heavens. I’m faster than the Devil’s own dirty thoughts. I’m a defender of liberty. A sentry of the skies. I am what Tommy Lee Jones called—in the 1990 anti-drug classic Fire Birds—“a first-class all-American hero with his heart and brain wired together, cooking full-tilt boogie for freedom and justice.” America’s enemies: I give ‘em the bird. The whirly-bird.
And what a bird she is! Tiny and ultra-lightweight, she’s crafted from a “Unique Material” that’s reputed to “Withstand Crashes.” Ha! One day I’d like to meet the sad little desk jockeys who write this stuff. Withstands crashes! NOT THE WAY I CRASH, PAL.

Features
The TaylorMade RocketBladez Irons are here to revolutionize your game. By borrowing the distance-enhancing benefits of the original RocketBallz fairway woods and rescue clubs that incorporate a lower CG placement in each iron for high launch, the RocketBladez irons provide unprecedented launch, speed and distance. This innovation brings forward a combination of distance, control, and feel that has yet to reach the golf club industry until now.
RIGHT-HANDED
- Higher lofted heads to promote easier launch
- Deep undercuts and thin faces to help maximize distance
- Vibration and sound control system promotes excellent feel and sound
- Steel shaft
- Availability:
- 4-PW with AW or SW
- Regular or Stiff Flex
Higher Loft
Recreational golfers with swing speeds of 80 to 90 mph should seek a higher loft. The loft of any golf club is what determines how high a shot will go when the club head strikes the ball. Besides club head speed, the angle at which the club head hits the ball is relevant when selecting loft, so a player whose downswing is less steep may select a higher-lofted club than a player whose angle on the downswing is particularly steep.
Ultra-Thin Clubface
The RocketBladez clubface consists of strong, maraging stainless steel. It’s TaylorMade's most sophisticated clubface design yet, made possible by more evolved analysis and testing and increased mastery of the manufacturing processes. It’s the thinnest iron face TaylorMade has ever created, with the top section now 1.6 mm, down from 1.8 – that’s 11% thinner.
Improved Inverted Cone Technology
The RocketBladez irons also incorporate TaylorMade's most effective iteration of Inverted Cone Technology. The improved Inverted Cone design delivers two critical benefits. One, it increases the size of the clubface area that delivers high ball speed. Two, it influences how the face flexes and rebounds at impact to control the angle at which the ball leaves the face, promoting straighter shots and a tighter dispersion. This is a critical benefit that promotes significantly greater accuracy compared to previous high COR irons.
Lower and Centered CG Location
Impacting the ball where the CG is located on the face is critical to achieving maximum ball speed. TaylorMade engineers fine-tuned the RocketBladez HL CG to a lower and absolutely centered location on the face by shortening the hosel to save weight and taking additional weight from the top of the club, then redistributing it all in strategic areas within the head. Locating the CG lower and in the center of the HL iron's face makes it easier to consistently find the sweetspot to achieve maximum energy transfer from club to ball, promoting a higher launch angle and maximum distance.
