Sonny Justice listened to Phil Collins as he tried not to think about her, his XACT Wristlinx Two-Way Wristwatch Radio X33XIF in the chain beside him. The call alert was going crazy, Sonny assumed it was because his partner, Tubbs Purebottom, was within the 1.5 mile range, trying desperately to contact him. But Sonny didn’t want to talk to anyone on any on the 22 channels using any of the 38 privacy codes. He put the electronic volume control down to zero and disengaged the channel scan. He might not even recharge the battery when it ran out. He knew he’d just sent the woman he loved to jail for the rest of her life. That had been his job as an agent of the Bureau Of Just Actions, like his father and his father’s father, and his father’s father’s father. He just wished maybe he wasn’t so good at it.
