Dyson Killer
By Jerry P. Danzig on Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2025
Well, it finally happened -- my beloved 25-year-old (!) Braun Super Volume Salon hair dryer succumbed to a hairline crack in its body that was making it hard to keep the diffuser and concentrator attached securely. So I was looking for a new hair dryer that would also stand the test of time and found this beauty, from an unknown brand. Basically it seems to do most or all of what the Dyson hair dryer does, for a fraction of the price. As other reviewers have commented, this hair dryer's motor is absolutely silent; no whine of any kind! Instead, you just hear the whoosh of air being expelled at high speed. The unit has three heat levels and three fan speeds, all easy to select with buttons on the handle. An easy-to-read LED window also confirms the chosen settings. Construction and materials used appear to be of the highest quality: an aluminum body (and, I think, the attachments too), plus a very thick and rugged-seeming power cord and bathroom safety plug. The magnet lock for the attachments is a slick feature as well (no more locating insertion slots and twisting!) Unfortunately, because I'm an old man with a Friar cut -- bald on top, fine gray hair on the sides -- the time it takes to dry my hair has always been minimal, and this dryer certainly seems as fast or faster than the 1600-watt Braun. It doesn't seem to blow as warm as the Braun, even on its highest setting, but that's probably good for your hair. The increased air flow gets the job done perfectly well, and the ionic feature also seems to help minimize frizz. Folks who want to impress their friends and neighbors may still insist on getting a Dyson hair dryer, but what do the several hundred dollars D charges get you? Better service? Not to judge from all the Dyson complaints I see online... If you just want a quiet, well-built hair dryer, this one seems to be a good choice at a great price. PROS: * 180,000-rpm brushless silent motor. * Three speeds, three heat settings. * Aluminum construction. * Ionizer minimizes frizzing. * Circuit-breaker power plug. * Diffuser and concentrator attach with magnets. * Reasonably priced for the quality. * 2-year warranty. CONS: * Manufacturer not a household name. UPDATE: I just wanted to pass along the advice to users that if the dryer shuts down with the "F" light blinking, that might mean it's time to check and clean your air filter. After several weeks of use (and construction in the immediate neighborhood) I experienced what I guessed was a thermal shutdown, and darned if I didn't find very precisely patterned -- but thick -- clots of dust on the filter. It was easy to discern what slices of the filter lie under air vents in the metal protective screen! I rinsed the filter with warm water (from the inside) and let it dry for a few hours. Then reinstalled it, and no further thermal shutdowns (until the next time the filter needs cleaning, I presume!) Happy hair drying!

Broke! No heat after 1 month! 😭
By Christy Brooks on Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2025
Loved this at first. This morning heard a pop and all heat quit working and now only blows cold. So if you want a cold dryer it would be great but worthless to me. Amazon kept me on chat for an hour to still have to return a broken dryer to Kohl’s to get a refund to now go on a hunt for a new one. Big disappointment!
