Music Monday: Spring = XTC

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! From Scott's point of view, there aren't many bands that feel as spring-like as XTC. So today, since we're comfortably into Spring, Scott's celebrating with a day of XTC! YOU MUST CELEBRATE TOO!

XTC - King For A Day

You can just hear the sunshine in the guitar, can't you? I'm not sure there's a better song for lying in the grass and relaxing. XTC is perfect for doing nothing with. Just sit on your porch, balcony or corner stoop and be.

Got four more, coming right up. And then it's your turn to talk about spring.

XTC - Love On A Farmboy's Wages

Considering the title, this pastoral feeling of this song is certainly intentional. But does that make it any less lovely? No. No it does not. This song is just lovely enough for Spring.

XTC - Earn Enough For Us

It's a little less optimistic than the previous song, but doesn't it still feel positive? This guy has it hard and it's stressful but you get the feeling that he'll make it in the end. Just something about the music tells you that things will get better.

XTC - Green Man

What's more Spring than a song about the Green Man? I SAY NOTHING. And hopefully you do too.

XTC - The Wheel And The Maypole

Even in the year 2000, XTC was still able to mix folksy British metaphors with that lovely, jangly sound of hope and beauty. Open a window, breath some clean air, and force your neighbors to listen to some XTC this week! DO IT, OKAY?

Feel free to post some of your favorite Spring songs in the comments if you like. Let us just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia page and are here under fair use. See you next week.
