Music Monday: Frank Sinatra

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! Today Scott's paying tribute to the man who's still the standard of white guy cool, Mr. Frank Sinatra. Scott's picked five songs he really enjoys, but he's also got a little reading recommendation. As you listen, click here and read one of the best Sinatra articles ever written.

Frank Sinatra - In The Wee Small Hours

Sinatra was born on this day in 1915. That's over a hundred years ago. That means, for roughly a century, we've been talking about Frank Sinatra. What's even left to say? Today I encourage you to find your own special place within the music Sinatra left us.

Four more, comin' right up.

Frank Sinatra - I've Got You Under My Skin

Just listen to how smooth it all sounds! When you're in the mood for Sinatra, there's really nothing else that will take it's place.

Frank Sinatra - Me & My Shadow

Sinatra always seemed to be super loyal to his friends. The Rat Pack shared projects so often it seemed like hiring one of them would hire the group. Sorta like modern hip-hop, once you were on the team, you were on the team. Especially if you didn't even have to stand up.

Frank Sinatra - Summer Wind

i had to choose between this and "Very Good Year" and it was hard. Did I make the right choice? You tell me.

Frank Sinatra - Stardust

Sinatra's more known for the man he was after this big comeback, but he started young! He inspired so much in every direction, from characters on Star Trek to characters in The Godfather to the singers that show up on PBS pledge drives to P-Diddy. He gave inspiration to David Bowie, he yelled at Harlan Ellison, he made friends with Joe Piscopo, he even worked with Porky Pig, and that's just a random few picks. Sinatra was tough, sure, but he really was one of the first pop stars. And today, he's worth remembering.

Head over to Facebook and you might just pick up some Sinatra of your own. Let us just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia page and are here under fair use. See you next week for the last RIP post of 2016, and then week after we wrap up the year with a special guest post from an old friend!
